"A.S."Associated Students. Associated Students (A.S.) of San Diego State University (SDSU) is an independent student-directed corporation (auxiliary) that provides a wide range of services and programs for SDSU students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and the general public. With an operating budget of over $29 million, Associated Students derives 25% of its revenues from student fees and 75% from revenues generated by programs it operates. A.S. SDSU is run by five elected student executive officers and the student Board of Directors. A.S. employs 100 full-time employees and over 1,200 part-time employees.

Aztec ShopsAztec Shops, Ltd., founded in 1931, is a non-profit corporation that functions primarily as an auxiliary of San Diego State University. As a "self-sustaining" non-profit SDSU auxiliary, Aztec Shops operates without subsidy from the University or the State. The corporation manages a diverse portfolio of services including operation of the SDSU Bookstore, SDSU Dining, SDSU Conference Services, SDSU Licensing, and Commercial and Residential Real Estate properties surrounding campus.

Collective Bargaining Unit or "Union"A bargaining unit is a group of workers with similar interests that are represented by a single labor union. There are many bargaining units at SDSU, each representing a different group/type of employee. The agreement each union has with the CSU is called the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). A CBA is a written legal contract between an employer and a union representing the employees. The CBA is the result of an extensive negotiation process between the parties regarding topics such as wages, hours, and terms and conditions of employment.

OmbudsmanAn official appointed to investigate individuals' complaints against maladministration, especially that of public authorities. For example, a Student Ombudsman is a student-focused resource who supports students in addressing and resolving concerns or issues that may arise within the University. Or, a Faculty Ombudsman may investigate and work to resolve issues the faculty have within the university.

Outside FacultyA member not part of the hosting organization or group. For example, "outside faculty" on search committees are external members in that they are not faculty in the unit where the new hire will work.

SDSU AuxiliariesAn auxiliary branch is a non-state funded part of the Univerity. SDSU has four auxiliary branches: Aztec Shops, Associated Student, Research Foundation and Campanile Foundation. Typically, these branches earn money and help support the overall mission and funtion of the university.
